YUL’s Sky Lounge: when the sky is the limit

- URSULA LEONOWICZ

There’s downtown living, then there’s living at YUL where, perched on the 38th floor of the project’s first tower and spread over some 3,000 square feet, residents can enjoy exclusive panoramic views of the city while enjoying a gourmet meal or simply luxuriating in the elegance and style provided by the meticulously designed lounge.

“The Sky Lounge, which is unique in Montreal and reserved exclusively for our residents, is the epitome of the luxury and comfort that defines the entire project,” said Kheng Ly, founder, president and chief executive officer of Brivia Group and YUL Condominiums.

“Furnished exclusively by Armani/Casa, it offers exceptional views of Montreal, the river and Mount Royal, as well as surrounding areas.”

When Brivia Group, which heads the project alongside Tianco Group, first decided to partner up and create one of the most highly-anticipated developments in the city, they knew there was only one person in the world who could live up to the style and luxury they envisioned for the project: Giorgio Armani. As the head of Armani/ Casa, the fashion mogul’s home furnishings and interior design firm, he was the only designer in whom Brivia and Tianco had absolute faith. A collection that includes furniture and accessories as well as textiles, decorative objects and lighting, Armani/Casa offers the sleek design esthetic that has been associated with the fashion house since its founding — and is now shared by YUL Condominiums.

With its distinctive design philosophy that focuses on perfect symmetry, refined finishes and luxurious textiles, it was the ultimate complement to the downtown project that was designed by Menkès Shooner Dagenais Letourneux Architectes, in partnership with Stefano Domenici architect. This complementary design vision was the main reason Armani/Casa was chosen to furnish all of YUL’s common areas, including the Sky Lounge.

The lounge’s two distinct spaces, which are separated by a long glass corridor that leads to a large outdoor terrace with a barbecue and a westside view of the city, include one area with a welcoming dining room, a semi-equipped kitchen and a comfortable seating area and a second with a luxurious lounge, both with an incomparable view.

Overall, the Sky Lounge provides the ultimate spot from which to unwind at the end of the day or to celebrate at the beginning of a new one. Whether for a small family barbecue, a friendly get-together or a fancy catered meal, the lounge is sure to become the project’s vibrant epicentre. The kitchen, which is available for use by all of YUL’s residents upon request, is fitted with Italian-made Scavolini cabinetry.

The development won the Énergir prize for better use of natural gas in March of this year and has been praised for its sustainable and technological components as well as its choices in terms of energy efficiency. It stands out for its green design as well as its esthetic one, both of which were equally important to the project’s developers.

Once fully completed, YUL Condominiums will consist of 800 condos plus 17 townhouses. Phase 1’s tower, which houses the Sky Lounge furnished by Armani’s elevated home collection, is now occupied. Phase 2’s tower, which is scheduled for occupancy in 2020, has already been named the top-selling condominium project in downtown Montreal by the Altus Group, and was also awarded a Prix Habitat Design prize this year.
