GROSS, Laury (Laurence)
Peacefully, at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, April 25, 2020. Laury shared his life with his cherished wife and closest friend, Roz, for fifty years. He was a devoted and loving father to his sons and daughters-in-law, Ari and Candice, Adrian and Alyssa, with whom he shared his love of art, music, history, literature and philosophy. Adoring grandfather of Lydia and Leon. Beloved son of Naomi, whom he held dear, and the late Bernard. Son-in-law of the late Doris and the late David Bakst. Laury created beautiful memories with his siblings and their spouses, Marlene and Lenny, Zeek and Joanne, Bram and Deppy. Dear brother-in-law of Marilyn and Robert. He had especially close relationships with his nieces and nephews, Riel and Stephanie, Patrick and Chen, Rochelle, the late Sammy; Bram and Maria, Jessica and Stuart, Noah; Aemon, and Sinaed; Bernie, and with his grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to Laury’s successful business career, his life was enriched by his love for the arts. He created beautiful paintings in watercolour and drawings in pen and ink, was a prolific and talented black and white photographer, and enjoyed a lifelong passion for music. There was nothing he enjoyed more than sharing his table with his family and friends after cooking up one of his delicious and creative meals, preceded by one of his specialty drinks. He was a lifelong scholar with a voracious appetite for reading and learning, always taking great pleasure in sharing his interests with those around him. He loved to travel with Roz, and they spent many wonderful years together exploring the world.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Thierry Alcindor of Cedars Cancer Centre for his attentive care over the past two years, to Nurse Patricia Friesen of CLSC René-cassin, and to the Mount Sinai Home Care Team whose support was instrumental in helping keep Laury at home with his family.
He will be remembered for his sense of humour and sharp wit.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the "Laury Gross Legacy Fund" c/o the Cedars Cancer Foundation, (514) 656-6662 (https://www.cedars.ca/cedars/en/donate/donate_online). Arrangements entrusted to Paperman & Sons.
He lived his life with dignity, generosity and grace and will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
