Walker’s Mustang Boss to be sold in July

- ALEX REID Driving.ca

Paul Walker’s cultural influence extends beyond the Fast and Furious films he starred in — he was also a real gearhead with a passion for vehicles and driving them.

Since his death, many of the fantastic cars in Walker’s collection have found new homes, but the next to go up for sale is an incredible Mustang, a rare vehicle in its own right, even without the provenance of being owned by a

Hollywood star.

The 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 is finished in Raven Black and has only 14,575 miles on the odometer. It has a four-speed close-ratio manual transmission, a 3.91 Traction-lok differential, power steering, and power brakes. It also has a competition suspension, functional hood scoop, rear window slats and spoiler, and flat-black Magnum 500 wheels with period-correct Goodyear Polyglas tires.

The value of a Boss 429 in perfect condition but without the Walker connection fetches on average US$352,000, according to Hagerty. Using previous auction results from the sale of 21 of Walker’s vehicles in January, Hagerty calculated the star’s former ownership adds an average premium of about 167 per cent to the price of a vehicle.

It’s no question the vehicle will bring a huge sum, but will it garner as much attention from his fans as his others? It is a rare and beautiful muscle car, but it’s a departure from the modern tuner vehicles usually associated with Walker’s films, and its fans. The car will cross the block at Mecum Auctions on July 10.
