Drive-in event theatre to offer live shows, tailgating for guests

-

A multi-purpose entertainment venue opening on June 21 will allow Montrealers to respect physical distancing while enjoying live events, films, corporate events and ceremonies, organizers say.

The Royalmount Drive-in Event Theatre is located at the intersection of the Décarie Expressway and Highway 40. It’s described in a statement as a “fully convertible drive-in venue capable of hosting movie nights, live bands, comedy shows, specialty screenings, graduations, televised or streamed live sporting events, corporate presentations and events, product launches and other public gatherings, which have been on hold since mid-march.”

Approved by the provincial and municipal governments, the venue will allow guests to exit their vehicles and tailgate in a predetermined safe zone in front of their own vehicle.

The venue will feature window service for concessions to eliminate the need for guests to leave their vehicles, individual bathrooms with their own wash stations that will be maintained with a team on site to disinfect facilities after each use, and audio broadcast to each car though its own sound system.

The site, which can accommodate 250 cars per event, will feature a 30-foot-wide stage with sound and lights and a giant LED screen.

Organizers say the venue will be available to rent for show promoters, private groups, charitable organizations, schools and other collectives, with favourable rates offered to charitable events and school graduations.
