MICHALOVIC, Genevieve (nee Sidlovsky)

-

December 26, 1930 - June 15, 2020

Passed away suddenly and peacefully at CHSLD Vigi Pierrefonds. Jennie was always in good spirits and smiling, and kept in contact with her family through the pandemic with regular calls and video chats, and a recent remote visit.

Beloved wife of Joseph Michalovic, deceased July 24, 1987. Jennie leaves to mourn her loving sons Paul (Anne Whelan) and John (Maria Brown); her granddaughters Stéphanie (Jean-françois Huppé), Alisha (Michael Marak), Laura, and Emilie ( Ryan Macdonnell); her great-grandson Oliver, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sisters Sidonia and Mary, her twin sister Margaret, and her brother Joseph.

Jennie was born in Niagara Falls (Chippawa), Ontario, where Jennie and Joe were married. They then moved to Park Extension in 1958 where they raised their boys. They were active members of the Slovak community, and regularly attended St. Cyril and Method Slovak Catholic Church. With their good friends the Gaydos’, Rudinsky’s, and Grega’s, and many others, they celebrated holidays and festivals together with the Slovak community. Growing up in Park Ex, Paul and John did their best to challenge their mom as only sons can do, but the love they shared always came first.

Most of Jennie’s family lived in the Niagara Falls area, and regular family celebrations took place on both sides of the Niagara Falls border, and the families continue to do so in Niagara Falls, New York.

Jennie was heartbroken when Joe passed away, but soon two young ladies, Maria and Anne, entered her life. Jennie adored Anne and Maria, and they were always embraced with open arms. Soon after, her four wonderful granddaughters filled her life with love and joy.

After Paul and John were married, celebrations with their extended families became a fixture in Jennie’s life. Maria’s parents, Doreen and Tom, along with all of Maria’s family, welcomed Jennie with love and affection. As well, Anne, along with Nicole and Rick, showed mom a wonderful time with the Whelan clan.

When Jennie was not being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she was a caring service provider for over 20 years at the Villa Mount Royal residence, where she worked in the kitchen and dining room, until her retirement at the age of 62.

Just recently, Jennie had the pleasure of meeting her great-grandson Oliver at her residence, and even though it was through a glass window, her eyes lit up to see his laugh and smile.

We thank the staff at Vigi Pierrefonds for their wonderful care and support these past nine months.
