INDIGENOUS CHILD WELFARE SERVICES TO GET $542M FOR SET-UP

-

The federal government is sending $542 million to Indigenous groups to help them set up welfare services for children and families, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday. The government has been promising to transfer control over child and family services to Indigenous governing bodies so they don't need to rely on outsiders to protect children in their communities. In 2019, Parliament passed a law to reform the system, requiring that children on reserves have access to services equal to those who live off reserves.
