The Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery (MJM&AG) is eager to see their 2012 Summer Art and Culture Camp start up this upcoming July with a series of classes designed to expand your child’s understanding of history and culture through art. From July 2nd to August 31st a number of different classes will run every week for age groups 3 to 5 years old, 6 to 8 years old, 9 to 12 years old, and 13 or older. Camp topics include Asian Art, Digital Art & Video Project, Flower Power: Art from the 60’s, Introduction to Film, Latin America, Mysteries of the Middle East, and Plastic Arts. Each will run for approximately 5 days each from 9:30 a.m. till noon, they will be led by respectable artists and teachers for such as Jessica Hoover, Anne MacDonald, Cora Melanson, Aaron Moore, and Bert Redstone. Classes cost anywhere from $75 to $125 and space is limited. Those interested in signing their kids up are urged to register a minimum of 10 days before a class start date at the MJM&AG information desk on the lowest level of the Moose Jaw Public library. The Summer Art and Culture Camps aren’t the only big things coming up at MJM&AG over the next couple of months. On June 28th Aaron Moore will be leading a session of Artist Trading Cards from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. where participants will be able to make and trade miniature artwork. “It’s quite a popular activity among art communities all over the place,” said Christy Schweiger, Education Coordinator at MJM&AG. “We’re really hoping to see more people come out and to have the Moose Jaw Art Guild join in on [Artist Trading Cards] with us as well so that it really finds a place here.” On July 1st, Park Art kicks into full swing from 10:00 till 4:00 in Crescent park right next to the Public Library. This popular event is the MJM&AG’s largest annual fundraiser and serves as one of the finest arts and craft markets in Saskatchewan. A wide variety of high-quality handmade works by artists and artisans from around the prairies and beyond will be available for viewing or purchase to the general public. MJM&AG is also partnering with the YMCA from August 20th to 24th for a special program which combines physical activity with art. Known as H’Art and Soul, the program cost $165 for members and $180 for non-members. For information on any of these programs call (306) 6924471, visit www.mjmag.ca, or drop by the MJM&AG desk on the lowest level of the Public Library Tuesdays to Friday between noon and 5:00 PM.
