Thank You Transit Drivers!
On Friday, March 17, Moose Jaw Transit operators who safely transport residents across the city on a daily basis were celebrated as the city joined the rest of the world in celebrating ‘Transit Driver Appreciation Day.’ Transit Driver Appreciation Day was celebrated around the world in recognition of the many efforts made towards ensuring riders get to where they need to go – from assisting when necessary, to giving directions and successfully maneuvering through unpredictable traffic and weather. According to the City of Moose Jaw, “In 2016, Moose Jaw Transit drivers provided over 450,000 rides to residents of Moose Jaw. Every day, citizens rely on Moose Jaw Transit. Drivers provide customers with reassurance that they will get to their final destination and peace of mind that they will get there safely.” For all of these reasons and more, The City of Moose Jaw says it hopes riders will join in and thank their drivers for their efforts and providing an impeccable service. The Express caught up with some of the operators to ask them, what’s the best thing about their job on a daily basis? They all noted that interacting with customers everyday has been the best part of their job. “The people, our customers are the best part of doing the job everyday,” said Corrine Gibbs. “It’s the people that we move around that I enjoy everyday,” Wayne Strong. “I get to meet some good people everyday,” Dean Steinhoff And another driver Bill says “It’s serving the people—that’s the best part.” Meanwhile, Thomas Craig who says he works at the shop to service the buses but often transports riders, as well, states, “I’m kind of a people person so the interaction with riders everyday is great!” Transit Driver Appreciation Day initiative continues to grow and is now celebrated by transit organizations around the world.
