Molson-Coors Awards Canadians for Demonstrating ‘A Taste of Who We Are’
An anniversary acknowledgement of Canada’s 150th by the Molson-Coors brewery, took place on Thursday, October 26, 2017. “A Taste of Who We Are” was created to honour residents who stand for great Canadian character. Jeff Springer, Merchandizer for Molson-Coors Canada shared some qualities that demonstrate “great Canadian character”: connection to the community: breaking down borders and bringing people together; connection in holding ourselves to the highest standards in everything we do; celebration through living with joie de vivre during celebrations, and commitment through a determination to go the extra lengths even when it seems impossible. While presenting the recipients with a specially designed Molson Canadian wooden crate as a token of appreciation, Springer reflected upon words of Molson-Coors founder, John Molson: “We are all members of a larger community which depends on everyone playing a part” This was printed on the underside of the boxes presented
Mayor Fraser Tolmie was asked to select the three recipients; individuals who he felt exhibit great Canadian character through their passion and commitment to their community. As such, Mayor Tolmie selected Glenn Hagel, Siera Bearchell and Jacki L’Heureux-Mason, although he also acknowledged there was no shortage of other worthy individuals. He added that it was the people that make our city great. Siera Bearchell stands out because of her love for her own city said Mayor Tolmie. “It doesn’t matter where she goes, whether it’s here waving the flag for the City of Moose Jaw, whether she’s in the province or the nation of Canada or wherever she’s gone worldwide, she’s always proud of her home and her community.” Because of Bearchell’s international advocacy and pride in who she is, she has expanded the community beyond Moose Jaw. “Moose Jaw values and true Canadian character came out with respects to that.” Glenn Hagel, former Mayor, former MLA and Speaker of the House and his love of the community has always been clear to the Mayor. “Hagel is always talking about how much he loves our community, and he has been involved not only because of his political commitments but also behind the scenes,” which ultimately speaks to his contributions in “developing young people to become leaders in their fields.” Mayor Tolmie said he selected Jacki L’Heureux because she has transformed Sidewalk Days, “making it an event which people look forward to every year, and it’s just been getting better and better.” He added that our “technology-dependant world needs the effort of our citizens bringing our community closer together, and the chosen individuals successfully do just this.”
Molson Canadian’s announcement of the #TasteofWhoWeAre recipients is set to air on Country Music Television on November 19th.
