Design Transforms a Room

-

Have you ever noticed that window coverings can literally transform a room? Most of us only think of them as serving a function without really considering how they can affect our décor. At least I used to feel that way. It didn’t take long working in this industry to notice how amazing these transformations can be, or to realise that my job as a consultant really can make a difference in your home. Seeing the home before and then after installation is really rewarding from the perspective of someone who really wants to serve you.

Here are a few things to consider when choosing your blinds:

1. Functionality: Yes – this article is about design BUT there’s no reason to invest in window coverings that don’t do their job no matter how pretty they look. What matters most to you when it comes to function? Privacy? Reducing the glare on the tv? Sleeping until noon even when the sun comes up at 5am? There’s always a way to satisfy your design needs within the function you’re looking to have.

2. Statement or accent: will the blinds be one of the main focal points of the room, or is it the patterned sofa or elegant woodwork that you would rather have people notice? This will help you and I decide if we go for a bold pattern or a subtle neutral-tone.

3. Your personality: do you tend to change your décor every 3-5 years or do you keep things around longer? Do you plan on selling your home in the near future? If you change your décor often or plan on selling within 5 years, you might want to choose something more neutral that would be relatively safe if you changed your décor. Blinds can last 15 years or more, so unless you’re willing to change the blinds when you change your décor, you should take this into consideration.

4. Ease of use: would a remote or app on your phone be the best way to control your shades? If you love luxury or if you have shades that are too high up to function normally, this is something to consider. Automation is becoming very sleek and affordable, and can simplify your life!

What other factors have come into play for you when choosing your window coverings? I’d love to hear your thoughts! And if you have any photos of your completed home with shades installed, please feel free to send them my way, and feel free to visit our Facebook page or website for photos and more information!

These are some of the things you should think about when it comes to your blinds, but we would love to offer up our consulting services to you and help you make a decision you’ll be happy with for many years. Consultations are always free with no obligation, and we never charge mileage fees either! We travel all over the province, so please feel free to give us a call.
