15 Wing MFRC receives donation from HMCS QUEEN
Members from HMCS Queen Naval Reserve Unit, Regina presented a donation cheque to the Moose Jaw Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) at 15 Wing on Wednesday, November 1.
HMCS Queen presented a cheque of $3,745.35 from an event that was hosted on October 21. They held a charity mess dinner in support of the MFRC to enhance supports to military members and their families in Saskatchewan, including all serving members at home and the families of those who have been deployed. The cheque was presented, as 15 Wing representatives joined MFRC families at a weekly Welcome Wednesday event. LCdr. Trent Nichols of HMCS says this was a great way to support the MFRC in their efforts to support military members and their families. “Every fall, we host a dinner on October 21 to mark the date when the first Canadian warship was delivered to Canada in 1910. Being able to tie that into supporting the MFRC with our charity efforts is a bonus. This year we were able to raise over $3,700 from the dinner. MFRC doesn’t just handle 15 Wing. They handle all of southern Saskatchewan military force reserves so this was a good marriage of our efforts and their efforts.” MFRC Director, Regan Gorski welcomed the donation saying that this will go a far way in continuing to provide the well needed support for military members and their families. He thanked HMCS for their generosity. “This is such a fantastic gesture and the amount would be put to good use. We have so many families in Southern Saskatchewan. Even though we do receive funding for some of our core mandated programs, approximately 1/3 of our programs are not funded so we rely on user fees, grants, donations and sponsorships. These types of contributions allow us to expand services to make sure that we’re connecting with families in Regina, Yorkton and our Integrated Personnel Support Center in Prince Albert and Saskatoon. Without these types of support, we wouldn’t be able to provide all this support.”
The Moose Jaw Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) builds strong, capable and resilient families in a supportive Canadian Armed Forces community. The MFRC collaboratively engages with military families and community and defence partners, which affects positive community transitions and relevant and adaptive family services, programs and resources for military families.
