REMEMBRANCE DAY
Saturday’s Remembrance Ceremony was a memorable tribute to our war heroes and those who continue to serve for our country, thanks to the organization and planning of Legion First Vice-President, Sharon Erickson.
The service included program contributions from Moose Jaw Band City Band & Friends, directed by Blaine Chadwick; MS Alexis Valgardsson; Capt. Rick Elmer; Saskatchewan Dragoons CO Major Jill Dulle and SM WO Al Pociuk; 15 Wing CO Col. Denis O’Reilly and Wing Chief WO John Hall; RCMP; Moose Jaw Police Service; Piper, Michelle Gallagh- er; Bugler, Capt. Rick Elmer; Moose Jaw Army, Sea, and Air Cadets; Scouts Canada; all Royal Canadian Legion Branch #59 Volunteers and Colour Party; and all 15 Wing & Veteran Volunteers. Branch 59 Padre Reverend Doug Shepherd officiated the 99th Annual Remembrance Day Service held in Moose Jaw, which began with Canada’s national Anthem at 10:45 am, followed by Invocation, hymn, homily, Scripture, prayers, Last Post, Moment of Silence (Lament), Reveille, Act of Remembrance, Canadian Legion Poppy Fund silver collection, performances by Vanier Collegiate Choir, recitation of the epic John McCrae poem, In Flanders Fields, official, organization- al and individual wreath-laying, Benediction, singing of God Save the Queen, and departure of Colours and Guests. Officials and dignitaries representing local, provincial and federal departments were all in attendance.
There seems to be a resurgence of respect for those that have served in the World Wars, as well as for the veterans of the Royal Canadian Legion, with the large attendance that has surpassed the past few previous years. Following the ceremony, the parade marched to the Royal Canadian Legion.
