Change the Channel

- By Wanda Smith

My family and just returned from a long weekend away Part of our getaway included the Saturday matinee performance of the Canadian Finals Rodeo in dmonton t was surreal for me to be sitting in the seats of the legends of hockey, The dmonton Oilers My dad and spent many a Saturday night watching them perform their magic on ice on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada back in the ’s The event organizers pulled off a wonderfully entertaining rodeo even for us, seasoned rodeo goers who’ve sat in three hour perfs dragging on one minute (or more) too long Not only did we celebrate the lives of legends in the rodeo world who had passed away this year such as Hadley Barrett, Ty Pozobon, Winston Bruce, Harry old and more, we saw miniature wild horse races, excellent rodeo action and also honored the veterans and those who serve in the military for our great country all wrapped up into one action-packed afternoon t was a wonderful family event to attend Besides attending a performance at the CFR (on Hubby’s bucket list), we did a little shopping at a few stops including Mastermind Toys (Lil Sweet Pea’s bucket list) and Home Sense (Big Sweet Pea’s bucket list) and attended Edmonton Word of Faith Church for their Sunday morning service where a friend is the pastor (my bucket list)

Four days plus four people in close quarters all with certain expectations of how this trip was going to go could’ve equalled a challenge however; we were still friends by the time we pulled into home sweet home at the end of it all Although we are infrequent holiday-ers, there is one thing have come to love about the drive home it seems each time we go away, we come back envisioned with ideas of how life should go, plans for the days ahead, renos or improvements we’d like to make, etc This time was no different appreciate the fact that had Hubby’s full attention for the hour drive He was full of plans for outside improvements and , the inside We made some decisions about what to concentrate on for the next few months and ’m excited to see how far we get

nd it interesting how we get inspired when we get away from home, if only for a few days t seems we need to just change the scenery to gain a different perspective think God wants us to live like this He wants us to step back from our ordinary lives and see it from a different slant, a different view He encourages us to have vision for “without vision, we die ” When we are feeling stagnant in life, we can change the channel just as we do when watching television and become bored or not interested in what is on We can change the channel to nd something more interesting or inspiring Sometimes the change may be as simple as going for a drive and seeing life from a different perspective f you’re feeling stuck in a rut, change it up Do things a bit differently and you’ll start to see life differently Drive to work a different way Get up a few minutes earlier Try some different food Start a new tradition And most importantly, continue to feed on the Word of God which will renew your thinking “When there is not clear prophetic vision, people quickly wander astray But when you follow the revelation of the Word, Heaven’s bliss lls your soul ”
