Hunger in Moose Jaw thanks community

- Sasha-Gay Lobban

Hunger in Moose Jaw ended their 7th annual “I Bought a Lunch” Campaign on Friday, December 8th. The goal was to raise $50,000 in 50 days. The organization neared the goal by receiving $45,000 by the end of its campaign but expects that more donations will trickle in to meet its initial target.

Hunger in Moose wants to thank the community for its unwavering support in raising the funds. “A big thank you to the community of Moose Jaw for their support of this year’s campaign. Even though we did not make the $50,000 goal by December 8th, we anticipate reaching the goal as donations keep trickling in. There is still such a need for lunches in Moose Jaw. Close to 300 children are provided with a healthy lunch to the schools throughout the city every day. These lunches are provided free of charge,” said Executive Director of Hunger in Moose Jaw, Sharla Sept.

Hunger in Moose Jaw provides lunches every day throughout various elementary schools, providing over 65,000 lunches per school year. “The current cost to make lunch is $1 per lunch and in that lunch, each child receives a sandwich, a piece of fruit, a vegetable and a snack. This campaign ensures that children are receiving nutritious food that will enhance their ability to learn,” added Sept.

The “I Bought a Lunch” Campaign funds will go to supporting the Child Nutrition Program.
