Christmas in Our Hearts and in Our Homes

- Gisele Perrault for Moose Jaw Express

The women’s group at Hillcrest Church hosted its annual Ladies Night, ‘Christmas in Our Hearts and in Our Homes’ where guests were treated to a cup of hot cider, and then invited into the auditorium for some demonstrations and a guest speaker’s presentation. Yvonne Dyck shared her recipe for Poppycock. Made in minutes, it is an easy treat to have on hand for holiday entertaining. Val Braun took to the stage next, preparing a batch of winter crunch, a confection made with cereal, peanut butter and chocolate. She suggests having a supply on hand in the freezer, ready to eat at a moment’s notice.

Connie Cavanaugh, author and motivational speaker originally from Carrot River, Sk. but now living in Cochrane, Alberta was the guest speaker. She began her talk by joking that she married a Baptist preacher in a “get rich slow scheme”. She went on to describe her home life, to the amusement of those in attendance. The hall rang with laughter as Connie delivered her message. She advised those in attendance to “let go and let God”. She says that faith and trust in God can be developed, one “yes” at a time. You simply have to trust that He has a plan and that things will work out for the best.

Women made their way to the gymnasium after the speaker finished, where a beautiful variety of refreshments awaited. A selection of Christmas carols that were sung by Val Tisdale ended the evening.
