Blue Whale Financial Solutions hosts annual Christmas dinner at William Grayson School

A simple annual planning meeting at Blue Whale Financial Solutions has brought to life an outstanding annual tradition.

The entire staff of the Moose Jaw financial planning firm descended on William Grayson School on Dec. 21 with a full turkey dinner in hand for all the students and staff at the local elementary school. That meant more than 100 students and staff were able to sit down and enjoy a Christmas feast on one of the last school days before the holiday break. “It’s pretty incredible... we just arranged a date that works for everybody and set it up and here we are today,” said William Grayson teacher Pam Elliott, who helped organize the event.

“Some of these kids aren’t going to see a traditional Christmas dinner like this with all the fixings, so this is a pretty neat experience for them to come together as a school community, to eat with each other at the table, with their reading buddies and the staff as well. It not something that all schools get to experience and it’s really neat.”

Blue Whale has been staging the dinners the past three years, choosing a different school each Christmas. The whole idea came out of a staff meeting a few years ago.

“We were sitting around as a team and just started brainstorming other ways we could give the season of Christmas another flavor at our financial planning firm,” explained Blue Whale Financial CEO Joe Moffat. “Everyone rallied behind this idea and here we are today.

“It’s a fantastic tradition and it’s part of our firm now and we look forward to doing more more in the future.”

The event has become one of the most popular traditions at the firm, one they now look forward to every Christmas.

“Any time you gift you feel very, very good and this is one of the best gifts I’ve ever given, being able to see 10-plus kids laughing and giggling and screaming and telling us how great the mashed potatoes are and how great the stuffing is,” Moffat said. “The entire staff is down here and it’s great for us as a team to step away from our every day activities and enjoy what the Christmas season is all about.”
