Top teams still winning in Cash League

- Randy Palmer

It was more of the same in the Original 16 Cash League during the final night of league play before the Christmas break. BTN Chartered Accountants (Penny Barker) improved to 9-1 on the season and continued to hold down first place by percentage points with an 8-6 win over Tip Top Roofing/Pro-tec Electric (Stan Barnsley, 8-3).

The contest was back and forth as could be, as a three-ender in the fourth gave Barnsley an early 5-3 lead. The two teams exchanged singles the next two ends before Barker rallied for three in the seventh to take a 6-5 edge. She then stole one in the eighth to secure the win.

Moose Jaw Fountain Tire/Keon’s (Warren Marcotte, 9-2) scored four in the seventh end to blow open a close game and take a 9-4 win over Ackerman Ag. Services (Patrick Ackerman, 2-9).

Things weren’t quite as close for Seaborn Insurance (Joel Jordison, 9-2) as they scored six in the third end and went on to a 9-2 victory against EMJ Marketing (Joe Gunnis, 4-7).

Kal Tire (Rob Desjarlais, 7-4) moved into the top five with a 7-1 win over John’s Music (Ryan Wenarchuk, 7-5), building a 3-1 lead through the first three ends and then picking up two in the fourth and stealing singles the next two ends for the commanding victory.

The biggest upset on the night saw Protec Video (Wade Gray, 4-8) take a 6-4 win over Easy Care Living (Lorraine Arguin, 6-5). The two teams found themselves tied 4-4 through six ends, but Gray picked up one in the seventh and stole another in the eighth to finish things off.

R.A. Garland Agro (Murray Stroeder, 7-5) also kept pace with the leaders with his 7-3 win over KMS/Park Capital (Ben Gamble, 5-6). A fast start proved to be key in the contest, as Stroeder picked up deuces in the first two ends and stole another in the third to lead 5-0 and roll to the win. Team Redgoat (Donna Ackerman, 4-7) also built an early lead against Barb Wallace (2-10) — with three in the first and two in the third giving her a 5-1 lead. Wallace battled back with two in the fourth and a steal in the fifth to close within one, but Ackerman’s two in the sixth brought her lead back to three. She went on to a 7-5 win.

League action continues every Wednesday night at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre.
