New Beginnings for Moose Jaw Express
2018 will mark ten years the Moose Jaw Express has been published, initially as the Moose Jaw Value Express. The paper initially started out as a small advertising edition with very little local content but two years later, noticing the need for a community newspaper to meet the needs of local and regional business advertising, as well as first-hand written articles about the people and events going on in the City of Moose Jaw, the Moose Jaw Express was born.
As was previously reported inaccurately by another local media and apparently distributed through social media, the fire at 32 Manitoba Street in Moose Jaw, home to the Moose Jaw Express office happened in the early hours of Thursday morning (not Thursday night as reported), January 11th, 2017. It was a shock to wake up Thursday morning to hearing that the Moose Jaw Express office was no longer operational. As is an apparent misconception, social media is not what it is made out to be and not embraced by all. Even throughout the rest of the working week, most of the community had not yet heard about the fire; Late Thursday afternoon even the Mayor had not yet heard the news. Interesting enough, no other media made contact with the owners of the Moose Jaw Express for any comments or to get the accurate story other than Global News out of Regina. Thanks to them, they spoke directly to the management and staff at the Express to get first-hand comments.
Although the fire was a devastating experience, the Moose Jaw Express had previously secured the old Times Herald building to relocate to in the new year. It was to be a slow transition over to the new place over the course of the next month but due to circumstances, the Moose Jaw Express is now operational located at 44 Fairford Street West in the old Times Herald location. Unfortunately, three other businesses were affected by the fire at 32 Manitoba Street West: Folks Barber Shop, Little Spa on the Prairies and Chic Innovation Hair Lounge. Chic Innovation Hair Lounge has temporarily relocated to 56 Athabasca St. W., al- though phone services and debit machines will still need to be installed in the near future. If you would like to call them for an appointment, please call Courtney at 306.630.7225; Beth 306.631.2924; Tricia 306.631.7642; Paige 306.631.4517 and Beckie 306.630.5051. We will endeavour to keep the community posted on any other relocations or changes.
We really appreciate all the community and its support throughout this unfortunate incident and we welcome one and all to drop by the new location. We are proud to be your source of accurate local community news and advertising here in Moose Jaw, as well as to 67 outlying communities.
