Former Moose Javian Lou Bourgeois passes away at 101

Lou passed away peacefully on the 27th of January 2018, in Oakville at the age of 101. Predecease­d in 1999 by his beloved wife Donaleen (Munn), and in 2006 by his loving partner Elspeth Adams, his sister Yvonne, and his son-in-law Greg Morgan of Ottawa. Cherished father of Margot “Maggie” Bourgeois-Morgan. Will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Elspeth’s son Scott Lindstol and his wife Karen, Kirsten Taylor (Josh), Erik Lindstol (Jessica), goddaughte­r Jennifer Lithgow, Terry-Lee Gaudreau & Gary Paquin, former son-in-law Terry Lukiwski, Louise Leonard, JoAnn Brodey, Mark Willis, and their families.

Lou was born November 29th, 1916 and grew up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchew­an. After seven years in broadcasti­ng at CHAB Moose Jaw, his militia unit was mobilized.

It was the beginning of 33 years military service that included two tours of regimental duty (King’s Own Rifles and Queen’s Own Rifles), Canadian War Staff College, and staff appointmen­ts in Canada, the UK and Germany. Lou ended his military career in Ottawa as Director General of Informatio­n (Public Affairs) for the Department of National Defence.

He retired in 1973 to accept an offer to establish and manage a chamber of commerce to foster trade and investment between Canada and Brazil. He retired from the Chamber in 1986.

In retirement Lou travelled extensivel­y and indulged in his love of music and books. A longtime member of the Probus Club of Oakville, he chaired its non-fiction book club for 16 years.

Heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Waterford for their dedication and care, and to the wonderful friends Lou made there.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at St. Andrew’s Church, 47 Reynolds Street, Oakville.
