MJ Community Players presents ‘The Melville Boys’

- Sasha-Gay Lobban

The community is invited to come out to two exciting nights of great acting by our local actors, the Moose Jaw Community Players (MJCP) as they present “The Melville Boys” by Norm Foster on Thursday, March 15 and Friday, March 16. The play is for the whole family to enjoy and will be held at Minto United Church Hall at 1036, 7th avenue NW. Doors will open at 7pm. Tickets are $25. The play is produced by Verna Alonzo and directed by Debbie Burgher with cast members: Jarrod Jeanson, John Burgher, Nadia Frost and Crystal Milburn. “The story itself is a nice little comedy with a little bit of drama. It is all about family and so it’s a great event to bring out the family to see this story play out. We’ll also be taking this play to the Provincial Festival where there’s a competition every year. This upcoming event at Minto United is an opportunity to practice even more and for the community to see it. We’ve won many awards at the Provincials already and we’re hoping to do very well again this year. We are looking forward to presenting it to the community and for everyone to enjoy. We have a great cast and we’re certainly excited to present this play for two nights,” said Producer, Verna Alonzo. “Along with a crew of backstage volunteers and a large group of volunteers to help sell tickets, we are very excited to be putting on this wonderful play for the people of Moose Jaw. We look forward to our usual sellout crowds and then performing at the provincial competition during the first week of April in Weyburn.”

The Melville Boys effortlessly weaves comic and tragic. It showcases a relaxing weekend trip full of fishing, football and beer on the agenda for the Melville brothers. It also shows the brothers confronting eldest brother Lee’s terminal illness. Their trip is thrown for a loop when the boys meet two attractive sisters who inadvertently change more than their weekend plans. In this modern Canadian classic, Norm Foster offers a tender comedy full of vigor about brotherhood and the unexpected.
