Saskatchew­an Festival of Words 2018 to launch soon

The Saskatchew­an Festival of Words is gearing up for another exciting summer! The Festival runs from July 1922, 2018 and will feature Giller Prize winners, Governor General Award winners, sports writers, musicians, poets, journalist­s, mystery authors, workshops, film, poetry slam, and lots more! The Festival Launch will be on April 19 from 5-7 PM at the Moose Jaw Cultural Center. It will be your first chance to see the complete Festival Line-Up and get a look at the tentative schedule. Passes will be available for purchase as well with Full passes selling for $175 and allow for full entry to the entire Festival (except for workshops). Students can purchase a Full Pass for a discounted price of $55! Flex Passes are available for $100 and feature $125 worth of $5 punches to be used anywhere at the Festival. Flex Passes can also be shared by multiple individual­s. “Leading up to the summer Festival, we continue to host our year-round programs which are available for everyone to attend. We partner with the Moose Jaw Public Library to host a book club on the last Thursday of the month which features books by presenters attending the upcoming Festival. We also run our Performers Café Open Mic night at 7pm on the last Thursday of the month at Mitsu Café (this is a free event),” said Amanda Farnel, Operations Cordinator. Cineview continues once a month until May 2 and features films from the Toronto Internatio­nal Film Festival. Passes are still available at the door for $25 (for 4 films) or $10 each for individual tickets. Films start at 7:30pm sharp and are screened at Galaxy Cinema.

“Other events taking place around the city and across Southern Saskatchew­an include school programs in March. Our Writers In-Schools program is gearing up again to partner with Prairie South School Division and the Holy Trinity Catholic School Division. This program also works with Holy Trinity and their Battle of the Books program. During this week of programmin­g we will have author, Marty Chan, teaching in schools across Southern Saskatchew­an and hosting Battle of the Books,” she added.
