CORNER Snowed In…Sort Of

Three weeks ago, we got the snow warning. To be completely honest, I may have shrugged my indifferen­ce. There have been many snow warnings in our five years on Liars Mountain and while some snowfalls are heavier than others, we have been able to cope. We live in a part of the province that has four distinct seasons and we embrace all four of them but winter just might be my favorite because of two things, snow and our moderate temperatur­es. It is rare that we experience temperatur­es lower than -10. When we do, folks around here complain like h-e-double hockey sticks. Snow seems to be a different thing and the year round Liaronites, easily and almost eagerly, accept and react when and as needed.

That first snow warning was one of 6 or 7 in the last few weeks. I wonder why they just didn’t warn us of one big snow warning in effect ‘til further notice. The radio initially warned us to expect 20-30 cms of snow overnight. After I did the math, which took a long time, I was awaiting about 10 inches of the white precipitat­ion. No problem because I have a “Sno Tosser 3000” snowblower that chews up snow like I chew up Girl Guide cookies…and a beautiful bride that uses snow shoveling as part of “our” fitness program. What could possibly go wrong? Rain! And then more snow and then more rain mixed with slightly below zero temperatur­es.

While my Sno Tosser 3000 may be able to throw snow, it cannot throw rain, slush or a slurry of both…then add the overnight freezing 5 or 6 times and our little
