Optimists treat students to pancake breakfast at St Michael

Students at St Michael School were treated to a delightful pancake breakfast provided by the Friendly City Optimists on Monday, February 12.

Over 400 students, as well as staff, got to enjoy the pancake breakfast. Principal at St Michael, Rita Giroux expressed thanks to the Optimists Club for its generosity. She says the pancake breakfast was the perfect timing for students and teachers, as they begin to celebrate lent. “It is quite remarkable that the Optimist Club wanted to do this for us. We celebrate lent every year with a pancake breakfast so the timing was perfect when they phoned and said they’d like to do that for our school. It shows the kindness and the caring spirit of the organization and we try to teach our kids to do that. By coming in and modelling this kindness to us, we are very appreciative, especially during this time for the beginning of lent. This is a nice treat for the whole school and we appreciate the Optimists for thinking about us here at St Michael,” said Giroux. President of the Friendly City Optimist Doug Rogers says the club is pleased to have done this for the children as the club continues to give back to the community through different projects. “We catered to over 400 kids here this morning. We cooked pancakes and sausages that we made right here onsite with juice and we served from four stations at the school. It was well received by the kids and we’re happy that they loved it because it is really all about the children. So, this is just a way to give back to the children within the community.” The Friendly City Optimist Club of Moose Jaw is dedicated to “Bringing out the Best in Kids” and do its part through building friendship and teamwork through community service projects. Optimists strive to live up to their name and maintain an upbeat attitude, which they try to pass along to the children they serve.
