Legionnaires snap Generals win streak
If there’s one thing the Moose Jaw Generals have learned this season, it’s that hard work will keep things close regardless of how inexperienced or young you may be. They especially put that to work during the Feb. 10 weekend, sweeping a pair of games against Notre Dame Argos while putting up plenty of goals. They were unable to duplicate that effort against the Swift Current Legionnaires three days later, though, dropping a 5-0 decision at Mosaic Place. “Tonight it just seemed like we weren’t ready to compete from the get go,” said Generals coach Ray Wareham. “I don’t know if we won two in a row and thought all of a sudden we were better than we are. But we didn’t compete tonight that’s unfortunate... when you don’t compete you get what you deserve.”
Rin Beny gave the Legionnaires a 1-0 lead through the first period before Jacob Piller and Hendrik DeKlerk put Swift Current ahead 3-0 through two. Piller and Mkyllan Couture added single markers in the third to close out scoring.
Generals netminder Jake Davidson had a busy night, facing 48 shots, while the Generals fired 25 at Swift Current’s Steven Duchsher.
Moose Jaw fell to 9-28-3-2- with the loss, the Legionnaires improved to 25-13-1-4.
“It’s unfortunate, it’s been hard on everybody and for the most part they’ve been playing as hard as they can and tonight was just one of those nights,” Wareham said. “I’m disappointed tonight, but for the most part I haven’t been able to say that this year. The kids would be the first to say they could have given more, but that’s how it is.
“We have two more left and hopefully the guys will go all out and get a couple more wins close out the season on a high note.”
The Generals were back in action Feb. 17 and 18 against the Battlefords Stars in a pair of games at Mosaic Place. Scores were unavailable as of press time.
