Ackerman continues roll

- Randy Palmer - Moose Jaw Express

A tough regular season in the Original 16 Cash League has meant little to Patrick Ackerman and his Ackerman Ag. Services rink in the playoffs

After posting a 3-12 mark and finishing 14th out of 16 teams in the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre loop, Ackerman has since posted upset after upset in the post-season, with the rink’s most recent playoff showing their most impressive yet.

Ackerman built an early 5-0 lead against the Seaborn Agencies rink skipped by Joel Jordison and went on to a 9-7 extra-end victory in one of two ‘A’ side finals recently. As one might expect, Jordison didn’t go easily – he picked up three in the third end and a deuce in five to close within one 6-5. After the two exchanged singles the next two ends, Jordison stole one in eight to send it into extras, where Ackerman used the hammer to secure the win. The other ‘A’ final also saw it’s share of drama, as John’s Music (Ryan Wenarchuk, 10-5) roared out to a 5-2 lead over BTN Chartered Accountants (Penny Barker, 141) through the first three ends. That would be as much as Barker would take, though – they scored four in the fourth, stole two in the fifth and another two in the sixth for a 10-5 victory.

In ‘B’ side competition, R. A. Garland Agro (Murray Stroeder, 8-7) defeated Terra Grain Fuels (Ralph Courtnage, 6-8) 6-3; Kal Tire (Bob Desjarlais, 9-6) took a 6-5 win over Tip Top Roofing/Pro-Tec Electric (Stan Barnsley, 10-5); Fountain Tire/Keon’s (Warren Marcotte, 11-4) downed EMJ Marketing (Joe Gunnis, 4-11) 6-4 and KMS/ Park Capital (Ben Gamble, 9-6) took a 6-5 extra-end win over Barb Wallace (2-13).

Consolation draw action had Protec Video (Wade Gray, 4-11) defeat Shaunna Fritzler (2-12) 10-2 and Team Redgoat (Donna Ackerman, 5-10) take a 6-4 extra-end victory over Easy Care Living (Lorraine Arguin, 9-6). Playoffs continue Feb. 24 at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre.
