Team Effort

- by Wanda Smith

I had the privilege of watching an outstanding performance by our local WHL team, the Moose Jaw Warriors a short while ago. They were up against a team who seemed to have a burr in their bonnets (I mean... helmets) and were taking a lot of cheap shots at the big guns on our home team. A few fisticuffs were thrown and also a few injuries occurred that drew blood; which sure doesn’t make a mama’s heart happy. But set aside all the blood, sweat and tears, it was a game of skill and great work ethic! The confidence booster, I think, came from the team banding together and killing off a five minute major penalty and another minor penalty drawn around the same time. As the seconds ticked away in the five minute major, I could sense the energy building in the rink. By the time both penalties were killed off (that’s hockey lingo for the penalties expiring), the confidence level of the team went to a new level. This, in turn, affected the fans. It seemed the home town fans became one entity... gathering together in agreement for this team to finish strong! I haven’t been to many games over the years since we were blessed with the new rink, but I do know I haven’t seen the fans coming into agreement as they did the other night. It all culminated when “the wave” started! I heard one report that “the wave” has never happened at Mosaic Place and the other report was that it only happened the first year in the new building. Regardless, this was a sign that the atmosphere had changed and the town gathered as one to support their hometown boys. At the end of the game, it was so touching to see the team raise their sticks to the crowd in thanks for their support to help them with the win.

Folks, as believers in Jesus, we can be like that hometown crowd! We have the opportunity to come into corporate agreement on important matters of prayer and issues that affect our communities, towns, cities, province and nation (and world). Did you know there are some things we cannot change through prayer unless we can gather as a company to pray and declare things in the spirit world? We need to come together “in one accord” (in agreement) and allow our hearts to be knitted together in love for a common goal... that the Kingdom of God and the Good News will be preached throughout the world. Something happens in the spirit world when we come together like that! Corporate prayer/agreement can change what needs changed. Dear brothers and sisters, there is nothing more powerful than when two or more are gathered together in Jesus’ name! Powerful miracles and answers to prayer come from focused, heavily concentrated and heavily targeted prayers when everyone is in harmony, unity and agreement with one another! There is extreme power in the prayer of agreement in a corporate setting! I believe when we joined as a city for the Citywide Prayer Night in January 2017, we saw things shift for our city, province and nation! Let’s gather for more prayer and continue to make a difference!

“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”
