The Original Bottle Cap Lure Company promotes recycling awareness

-

Norm Price, founder of Bottle Cap Lure Company, is on a mission to promote recycling awareness. In a bid to do this, Price discovered that most bottle caps, were being dumped into landfills and most of the time ended up in rivers or lakes, which he says can be bad for the environment.

Realizing this, Price discovered that the caps can indeed be recycled; subsequently, he came up with the “Bottle Cap Lure” that uniquely uses bottle caps on fishing hooks. “I spent years in Alberta as a fishing education instructor, as well as teaching the Alberta Education Program and I’ve seen how many bottle caps are being discarded into lakes, rivers, and streams, as well as tossed into campfires every year by outdoor enthusiasts, not really thinking about the environmental consciousness of recycling these,” Price says. “I’ve also worked in the bar industry for years as security and has seen how many of these are discarded by commercial businesses. The caps generally end up in landfill sites because there has been no company or organization that recycles bottle caps. They usually end up in the garbage and create a mess.” As a result, Price decided to start recycling bottle caps, after realizing that these caps can become fishing lures for those who love fishing.

Stemming from the recycling of bottle caps into Bottle Cap Lures is the biggest and longest running fishing con- test across Canada, according to Price. The contest, “Bottle of the Brands,” for 2018, started on January 1 and goes until the end of the year, December 31, 2018. “The Bottle Cap Lure shows that caps can be recycled. And we’ve found companies that will melt these caps and turn them into new items and use them instead of going into landfill sites. This is the whole purpose of hosting one of the biggest fishing contests Canada has ever seen nationwide. This contest is to see who catches the biggest fish using the Bottle Cap Lure. This contest helps to promote awareness. The fishing contest will also help to recycle bottle caps on a larger scale.”

Entry fee for the competition is $50.00 Businesses can also have their logos printed (custom printed) on these bottle caps. In addition, if you want to help the environment by recycling bottle caps, you can save them and turn them in or mail in bottle caps for recycling. “We have a non-profit charitable organization called Hooked on Recycling where we can issue charitable receipts for the cost of any commercial establishments having to mail the caps in for recycling,” explained Price. “We’ve also landed the product in Canadian Tire stores that will help with sales on the Bottle Cap Lures which will inject money into Hooked on Recycling. Part of the sales proceeds goes towards recycling the bottle caps. This offsets the cost for recycling since we’re not government funded. People are already sending in their bottle caps from some businesses to recycle. The businesses like it because people return caps to them frequently, whether plastic or metal bottle caps.”
