Generals on two-game win streak

-

They might not have a shot at the playoffs, they might have only three games left in their regular season, but that’s not stopping the Moose Jaw Generals from doing everything they can to win games in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. With their focus already looking toward a campaign filled with potential next season, the Generals got a taste of just what might be in store as they took 5-2 and 7-4 wins over the Notre Dame Argos in SMAAAHL action last week.

The two wins saw the Generals improve to 9-27-3-2.

The Generals scored five times on the power play – including three man-advantage goals in the third period – on their way to a rare high-scoring victory Feb. 11 in Wilcox.

Casey McDonald scored twice and added a pair of assists while Steven Kesslering had the final two goals of his hat trick on the power play in the third as the Generals found themselves tied 2-2 after one and leading 4-3 through two.

Jaxon Georget had a goal and two assists, Cody Davis a goal and a helper. Brendan Kemp had four as- sists.

Ethan Hein got the start for Moose Jaw and turned aside 17 shots while the Generals fired 34 at Notre Dame’s Bryan Thomson, a Moose Jaw Minor Hockey product.

Hunter Livingston, Blake Rasmuson, Keaton Sorenson and Jayce Nikbakht scored for the Argos.

The Generals put together arguably their best performance of the season earlier in the week as they outshot Notre Dame 57-32, scoring four times in the second period on their way to the commanding win. Georget had a pair of goals to go along with single markers from Ben Wourms-Rowe and Skyler Sangster in the second period, while Davis had the Generals lone third period goal.

McDonald kicked off his impressive two-game stretch with four assists. His eight-point week gives him eight goals and 33 points on the season and vaulted him from 58th to 27th in league scoring. Hein made 30 saves in the win, Thomson 52 saves. Rasmuson and Matejka scored for Notre Dame. The Generals close out the season with a trio of home games at Mosaic Place this week as they host the Swift Current Legionnaires on Feb. 14 (7 p.m.) before taking on the Battlefords Stars in a weekend set Feb. 17 and Feb. 18. (both games 1:30 p.m.).
