Hitting the ‘Big 5-0’ in high-flying style

- by Kellie Smith,

Summer 2016 found me turning 50, but, with my dad hitting 74 and Gramma Bea going strong at 95, age does not define me. To celebrate, we gathered together at my parents’ beautiful place in Nelson, B.C.

Now, I am not overly adventurous, but I thought I should mark the turn of my first half-century in a unique way, so I booked a flyboard day for the entire family to experience.

Dad even gave it a try, making him the oldest person ever to attempt it with the fly-board rental company we hired. You can’t miss the shared happiness in that big group photo! The only one missing is Gramma Bea, who was in a second boat with our amateur photographers. Bea is a long-time subscriber and gifter of Our Canada. How surprised she will be to see a picture of herself in her favourite magazine! ■
