Toronto’s York University opens space for startups with no strings, fees, attached

- Mashoka Maimona, Financial Post

The York Entrepreneurship Development Institute’s (YEDI) 80,000-square-foot Business Acceleration Campus in Toronto is open for business. The facility includes commercial, industrial, educational, and office spaces, as well as a TV studio, to serve startups with different needs. The campus’s first clients will include graduates from YEDI’s Incubator Track, who have gone through the Executive Education Centre at York University’s Schulich School of Business. More than 100 startups and not-for-profits have graduated from the Incubator Track, which has attracted $2 million in funding in the past two years. The acceleration campus will serve ventures that have passed the initial incubation phase. Startups are not required to give up equity and all services available are free of charge. The space will make available investor and subject matter experts, one-on-one goal settings with program advisers, and ongoing educational sessions. Interested applicants may submit an application at: yedinstitute.org/accelerator.
