Dinner and a fashion show
George Invites Margaret to Dinner for a cause
The dramatic sculptural staircase and 40-foot glass ceilings of historic Walker Court at the Art Gallery of Ontario was the perfect venue for a wonderful start to the fifth annual George Invites margaret to dinner. Once again, Lisa and George Corbo of yorkville’s luxe George C boutique hosted glamorous guests with a presentation of Los Angeles-based designer Zaid Affas’s S/S16 ready-towear collection, which was seen for the first time ever. And I must mention that the sprinkling of verdura jewels was over-the-top. The fashion show was followed by a strolling supper — guests were invited to sit in lounges and others mixed and mingled at the bar. This year, two rising stars in the field of Immune Therapy were celebrated — Tracy McGaha and Linh Nguyen.
Top sponsors included Emmanuelle Gattuso, Interac, Pamela and Paul Austin, Gary and Donna Slaight and The Ira Gluskin and maxine Granovsky Gluskin Charitable Foundation, Sheldon Inwentash and Lynn Factor and Andy and Sue Redmond. All money raised will go to the Princess margaret Cancer Foundation’s believe It billion dollar Challenge.
The recent Tea & Tiaras afternoon at the Fairmont royal york was a sight to see! It was a multi-generational affair where daughters, mothers and grandmothers came out for high tea to benefit the Starlight Children’s Foundation. It was a jam-packed afternoon that included a heartwarming song from Starlight teen Karyssa, who sang “I dreamed a dream” from Les miserables … there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. There was also a fashion show featuring Starlight children modelling clothing.
“One of our main objectives at Starlight is providing our many valued supporters with a peek behind the curtain at the important work that we do throughout the year,” said Starlight Canada’s vP, special events and operations, Jeannie O’Regan. “Having the opportunity to showcase so many of our brave Starlight children and their families made Tea & Tiaras a memorable afternoon filled with tears, laughter and hope for everyone in attendance.” With the help of bloom Lanys Corporation, more than $80,000 was raised. When Coach Toronto throws a party, they really pull out all the stops. A who’s who came out to celebrate Coach’s new modern luxury store concept at its bloor Street Store. It wasn’t just any ordinary soirée. The powers that be flew in supermodel Jessica
Stam to host and NyC illustrator Blair Breitenstein to bring home the theme of New york moments, as a nod to the rich history and heritage of the Coach brand.
New york moments included Ny dJ Sam French (amazing spinning) and breitenstein, who sketched fashion silhouettes of the guests, who stood in line all night for a fab piece of art to take home.
“It’s cool to be brought back to Canada for a launch like this or a rebranding for such a great international brand like Coach,” said Stam. “I feel like I’m representing my country and coming home to do something like this, it feels good.” No doubt the A-listers in attendance felt pretty good, too.
