Relaxed luxe

A PENTHOUSE MODEL AT TRUMP EXUDES REFINED YOUTHFULNESS BY LISA VAN DE VEN

-

“Elegant, but with a little bit of fun,” is how Emy Frau Hamamy describes Suite 5501 at Trump Residences Toronto. At 4,313 square feet, the penthouse model suite may be grand, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously, featuring pop art accessories set against a largely white backdrop. A Downsview kitchen and adjacent “retreat” offer a separate living space for family, more casual than the formal living area, with brightly coloured accents throughout. “It’s an understated, relaxed modern look,” says the designer from Hamamy Design, who worked with Helen Gertchikova of Urban Tailor on the unit. Remaining suites at the Talon International Development site range from 1,300 to over 11,755 square feet and from $1,788,250 to $38 million. The sales office is located at 325 Bay St., Toronto, and open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., or by appointment. Call 416-214-2800 or visit trumptoronto.ca.

1 Separating the kitchen from the adjacent family space, this sectional sofa from Niche Decor features light grey upholstery contrasted with brightly coloured accent pillows in Paul Smith fabrics. “There are little pops of either colour or texture throughout the suite,” Hamamy adds. “Here, the pillows are the pop.”

2 While most of the suite is white, the black Downsview kitchen offers strong contrast, featuring high- gloss lacquer cabinetry paired with a Statuario marble backsplash. The floors in the kitchen are also white marble, extending through the adjacent family space and into the suite’s hallway and main entrance.

3 Meant to make an impression in the master bedroom, this light fixture — a silver-leafed chandelier surrounded by strands of crystal — adds “a little bit of bling without being tacky,” the designer says. The silver finish is repeated in the Candace Olsen wallpaper on one wall.

4 While nothing says luxury like a fireplace in the master bedroom, here Hamamy wanted to go one step further — so she surrounded it with marble. Above, a large mirror hides a television, while on the floor a sheepskin area rug adds to the room’s luxe appeal.
