NASA lost contact with the STEREO- B solar observatory — launched in 2006 to capture data from the Sun — almost two years ago. But it wasn’t considered a failure; its mission was only supposed to last for two years. Like many NASA spacecraft, the STEREO probe has long exceeded its shelf life.
