SLED FULL OF DRUGS NETS CANADIAN ONE-YEAR IN JAIL

-

A Canadian man caught pulling a sled carrying more than 280,000 prescription pills across the border into Vermont has been sentenced to a year in prison. Authorities say 21-year-old Cedrik Bourgault-Morin of Quebec was found with US$1.6-million worth of Xanax pills after he tripped a sensor while smuggling the drugs on a sled on Jan. 13. Authorities say the pills weighed 82 kilograms. Court documents said he was wearing white camouflage and pulling a sled that held a large duffel bag, which was also wrapped in white camouflage. “The circumstances of his offence indicate he had the assistance of co-conspirators on the Canadian side of the border, and he was anticipating assistance of co-conspirators on the American side of the border,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Ophardt wrote.
