Clinton’s record

-

Re: What Glass Ceiling Has She Shattered?, Rex Murphy, Aug. 20; Ditch The Misogyny, letter to the editor, Aug. 23. Letter writer Howard Greenfield says Hillary Clinton earned a six- figure salary as a lawyer while her husband Bill earned $ 30,000 as governor of Arkansas as an example of her moral and material support. The fact that she was paid that amount of money was because her husband was governor and the influence she might have.

This was a woman who failed the Washington D.C. bar exam and was caught up in several legal scandals of her own making while Bill was governor, in which she escaped justice because of who she was married to.

As such, there are few lessons young girls can take from her candidacy unless they wish to pursue a career in crime. Barry Lubotta, Toronto.

Rex Murphy fails to realize that Hillary Clinton has become a political trailblazer, unlike any other candidate in U. S. or global history, making it difficult for the Republicans to find a counterpart to compete. Her political life and interest in social justice began in her conservative home, continued into student council at high school and at Wellesley College. Throughout the late 1960s she was a political advocate for changes in civil rights and the rights of children.

And the individual accomplishments continue unlike any other woman or male presidential candidate in the history of U. S. politics.

When Bill Clinton was elected president, many boasted that Hillary Clinton was the brains behind the man. However, she has successfully managed an equally collaborative marriage with him. Smadar Meiri, Thornhill, Ont.
