BACKHOE USED TO GRAB ATM RIGHT OUT OF A STORE WALL

-

A thief operating a borrowed backhoe smashed through the wall of a north Edmonton business early Tuesday, clawing out an ATM in a single scoop. Hours later, as a cleanup crew hammered a temporary patch over the gaping hole in the wall, Sherbrooke Grocery owner Mijung Suh said she was baffled by the breakin. Suh and her son live in a residence attached to the store, but weren’t unduly startled hear- ing a crash at about 3 a.m., thanks to spending months surrounded by road construction projects. It wasn’t until a short time later that Suh learned about the break-in from her security company, which had been alerted and also called the police. By the time Suh went to take a look, the perpetrator had fled, leaving behind the backhoe borrowed from a nearby construction site.
