Re: U.S. Politics: The Art Of The Sales Pitch, Andrew Potter, Sept. 27; No Logic To Trump Voters, Andrew Coyne, Sept. 28.

Andrew Potter believes Hillary Clinton is losing the lead in the polls because of her poor sales pitch. But perhaps it’s because it’s becoming increasingly obvious she is just the smiley face of socialism and irrational environmentalism. Raise the minimum wage. Higher taxes for greater fairness. Increase federal debt through government funded infrastructure. Millions of new green jobs and solar panels! Stop the pipelines and close the coal mines. We are suffering the debilitating consequences of these loony left policies in Alberta right now. Heaven help the world if she becomes president. Hillary Clinton is the U. S.’s Rachael Notley, and one is enough. Peter Keith, Calgary. What kind of argument will get the attention of the swing vote? How about the salaries of those exported jobs Donald Trump is promising to bring back? Are the offshore salaries and working conditions also coming back with the jobs? After all, there’s a limit to the price business can charge for assembly line products. And it isn’t going to be the profit margin that’s going to get squeezed. Sharon Katz, Ottawa. Despite his abject unsuitability for the position there is at least a possibility that Donald Trump may become the next president of the United States. Which tells me that many Americans want to throw a wrench into what they perceive as a systemically dysfunctional and chronically corrupt political system. David King, Burlington, Ont.
