Inspirational, not aspirational. That was Jo Ann Capelaci’s goal in the model vignettes at Vista Flats & Towns in Stouffville. “I like to try to have a space that people find speaks to them, but that is also attainable,” says the interior designer. At Vista, that involved a contemporary but neutral palette of white, grey and charcoal — with pink, green and mixed metal accents. The urban esthetic is design-forward but “welcoming” and easy to achieve, adds the president of Colours & Concepts Inc. “It feels light and fresh and contemporary,” she says. Units at the Geranium Homes project range from 894 to 1,200 square feet and from the mid $400,000s to over $500,000. “One of the things that Geranium asked me was to showcase mostly standard finishes,” Capelaci says, so the white laminate kitchen cabinets are exactly that, though the heavy chrome pulls are upgraded. A white brickpatterned tile backsplash and grey-specked granite countertop complete the kitchen design.

Keeping on trend, Capelaci featured a mix of metallic finishes in the suite, including these gold-toned pendant lights from CB2. Below, mesh-backed metal stools from Crate and Barrel create contrast without taking up too much visual space. “They’re also super comfortable,” the designer adds.

“The shimmery silver fabric adds some sparkle,” Capelaci says of the drapes, which pick up on the metallic accents and add drama against the lighter walls. In the living room, they also contrast against one of the space’s more whimsical features: shaggy sheepskin chairs from Elte Market.

In the dining area, the glass-topped, gold-toned table — purchased at CB2 — doesn’t detract from the area rug below, which Capelaci created herself out of carpet tiles from Flor. “You can pick them up and move them and create an area rug of any size you want,” she says.
