Impeaching Trump

-

Re: Impeach Trump before it’s too late, Letter to the editor, Feb. 7

It’s one thing to print Mahmood Elahi’s rather panicky opinion of the new American president, but another to bestow it with such a garish headline, especially when it’s bolstered by such weak evidence. Alexandre Bissonnette “idolized Donald Trump” did he? I thought he merely liked him, as he did the NDP and Thomas Mulcair. And the leap from banning Muslim immigration — which, to be fair, is both temporary and from only seven of the scores of Muslim-majority countries — to a putative “frenzy of homicidal fury” is worthy of a Bob Beamon.

With all due reference to Prof. Allen Lichtman’s “gut feeling” that Trump will get impeached for essentially something or another, and the continued canard that ISIL de- pends on radical ( read, strong) American actions to stoke the flame of anti-Western feeling, I have to point out that the organization formed during president Obama’s watch when Guantanamo was being emptied, olive branches and carrots were the order of the day, and every attempt was made not to offend by either actions or language. Peter Mifsud, Toronto Throughout his campaign, Mr. Trump complained as to how just about every arrangement entered into by the U.S. ( trade deals, military alliances, internal domestic policies and other such entities ) were “total disasters.”

The only disaster he seems oblivious to is his role as president of the U.S. Morton Doran, Fairmont, B. C.
