17-year veteran Glenn poised for his third stint with Roughriders

Kevin Glenn’s competitiveness isn’t limited to the gridiron.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ quarterback said his competitive streak surfaces during more sedate activities.

“Everything I do, I compete at and my wife ( Asha) hates it,'' Glenn said. “We could be playing cards or dominoes. We have a domino app and my family plays it. ... It’s a friendly compete, but it’s like bragging. If you beat me, I have to get it back.’’

That competitiveness is among the reasons Glenn is back for a third stint with the Riders. That drive also means Glenn, who turns 38 on June 12, will be the league’s oldest active player when the 2017 season begins. Glenn, who is seventh on the CFL’s all-time list in passing yards (48,813) and ninth in touchdown passes (268), is heading into his 17th season.

Glenn’s CFL career, which started with the Riders in 2001, is all about competition. His first stint with Saskatchewan lasted until he was traded in 2004 to the Toronto Argonauts, who promptly shipped him to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He has also seen CFL duty with the Hamilton Tiger- Cats, Calgary Stampeders, Ottawa Redblacks, B. C. Lions and Montreal Alouettes.

Glenn returned to the Riders in 2015 before being traded to the Alouettes in October of that year. He began the 2016 season as Montreal’s starting quarterback, but was later traded to the Blue Bombers. Winnipeg released him in January after contract talks stalled.

Glenn feels the Riders are a good team despite finishing with a 5-13 record.

“They struggled last year in the win-loss department, but when you played that team you knew what they were going to bring it,’’ Glenn said.
