COMEDY CONSIDERED ‘MASCULINE,’ ACTRESS SAYS
If you don’t already know Rose Byrne, a comic and dramatic actress in the FX series Damages and who was in Neighbors 2 and HBO’s The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks, educate yourself. Because, as the actress told Evening Standard, female comedians don’t get half the support their male counterparts do in Hollywood. “Being funny comes with an authority that people find hard to give women,” Byrne said, adding that having the “power” of a punchline was “masculine," while female characters are often reduced to stereotypes or straight men. Addressing the gender pay gap Byrne, pictured, said it should be raised with those who “have the power to change stuff.” To try to help fix the “broken” industry, she set up The Dollhouse production company to create more projects about and made by women.
