Industrial tone

ANN ‘UNDERSTATED ELEGANT’ ESTHETIC AT WATERWORKS DEVELOPMENT LISA VAN DE VEN

-

“The influence is certainly more industrial,” interior designer Anna Simone says of the sales office for Waterworks, a Toronto condominium project by MOD Developments and Woodcliffe Landmark Properties. “The tone is set from the time you walk into the lobby area. There’s this continuation of thought.” The designer maintains that tone in the kitchen and bathroom model vignettes too, with an “understated elegant” esthetic, elevated with industrial accents. Graphic woods and materials build interest and create a sense of movement in the rooms, while the natural look generates warmth and a feeling of history. “I’m always looking for something that’s very unique,” adds Simone, of design firm Cecconi Simone. Prices and sizes for Waterworks are available through the sales office, located at 505 Richmond St. W., Toronto, and open Monday to Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. and weekends from noon to 5 p.m. Call 416-551-1505 or visit waterworkstoronto.com.

“It’s taking the concept of the harvest table,” Simone says of the kitchen island. “You’re honouring the past.” Set alongside industrial black leather and metal stools, the island adds a natural wood accent to the kitchen vignette, and a central spot to eat and gather.

Black accents create an industrial vibe in the kitchen, from the open black metal shelving to the custom black faucets. Those industrial elements build on the warmer wood laminate of the cabinets, while a marble-look backsplash — actually a manmade Dekton material — adds a sense of luxury.

“It’s all in the little details,” Simone says, and she focused closely on those details in the bathroom vignette, from the Corian used for the shower pan to the storage space hidden behind the mirror. Meanwhile, large-scale marble-look porcelain tiles create an elegant backdrop to the space.

a stone-look façade can sometimes feel cold, Simone added warmth to the bathroom with wood accents similar to those in the kitchen. The wood veneer of the vanity is repeated above in the mirror and throughout in the room’s accessories. “It’s all about a sense of continuity.”
