A new spin on Swift-Perry feud

Taylor turns to Spotify as Katy releases album

- Sadaf Ahsan

The Katy Perry/ Taylor Swift feud continues, with news that Swift has decided to make her entire back catalogue available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Tidal and other platforms — on the same day of Perry’s album release for Witness.

Swift’s management announced the news last week on social media, writing, “In celebration of 1989 selling over 10 million albums worldwide and the RIAA’s 100 million song certification announcement, Taylor wants to thank her fans by making her entire back catalogue available to all streaming services tonight at midnight.”

It’s an interesting turn of events for Swift, who has repeatedly blasted Spotify for not fairly compensating its artists.

The announcement also came one day after Perry brought up their spat yet again, in NME, saying, “I mean, I’m not Buddha — things irritate me. I wish that I could turn the other cheek every single time, but I’m also not a pushover, you know? Especially when someone tries to assassinate my character with little girls. That’s so messed up!”

She previously explained the feud on The Late Late Show: “She started it, and it’s time for her to finish it. … I tried to talk to her about it, and she wouldn’t speak to me. I do the right thing any time it feels like a fumble. ( I got) a full shutdown, and then she writes a song about me… That’s how you want to deal with it? Karma. I’m ready for that B. S. to be done. There’s the law of cause and effect: you do something, there’s going to be a reaction. Trust me, daddy: there’s gonna be a reaction. … I think that women together, not divided, will heal the world.”

And, you know, Swift is likely set to drop a new album very soon and her master PR machine is simply prepping the world. That said, the timing certainly feels a little purposeful, making it a convenient little dig in Perry’s direction.

Hell hath no fury like a Swift scorned.
