How RBC’s intrapreneurship program leads in innovation.

RYAN GALIMOVA 2017 AMPLIFY STUDENT

My team was given a very broad and challenging social problem — prepare youth for the future of work. I ammost excited about us making a difference in young people’s lives by applying our diverse set of skills while acquiring new ones. We get to do research, interview people, ideate, prototype, design, code, and create presentations to pitch our ideas. We also write blogs and make videos about our journey, participate in hackathons, and go to other innovation events. For me, it is very exciting to learn about AI (artificial intelligence) and NLU (natural language understanding); as well as build a beautiful front- end for our solution while collaborating with very talented people.

DEEPTANSHU PRASAD 2017 AMPLIFY STUDENT

Amplify is full of diverse, driven, and intelligent people. The friends I’ve made have backgrounds ranging from computer science and education to UI/ UX to aerospace engineering and everything in between. The variety, novelty, and complexity of the problems we’re tackling turn this diversity of thought into a valuable resource, giving birth to ideas and solutions that have potential for high impact. It’s an amazing environment to work in, and so what I’m most excited about is building new technologies and entertaining new ideas alongside my peers.

OBAFUNTO AYINOLUWA 2016 AMPLIFY STUDENT

My biggest takeaway from the program has to be my learnings. Experiential learnings. I came, I saw, I learned. My journey at RBC started with one major goal in mind — the desire to learn how innovation worked in large organizations, and the RBC Amplify program exceeded my expectations. In 16 weeks, I grew so much personally and professionally. I successfully observed and learned the value of design thinking, stakeholder engagement, and the importance of storytelling in conveying our message. The program presented me with tangible experiences and exciting opportunities in innovation. I learned that through collaboration, design, flexibility, pivots, and passion, amazing things can be created. Innovation is not just about the end product, it’s about the process.

JESSICA MALLENDER 2016 AMPLIFY STUDENT

My biggest takeaway from the RBC Amplify program was two-fold. First, that RBC is invested in attracting and developing upcoming talent; and second, that R BC is committed to being a technology-enabled company that is not scared to push the status quo and challenge what is possible. The Amplify program gives students the opportunity to work on exciting tech projects that allow them to develop new on-the-job skills, ultimately providing a platform to jump-start their future career. Additionally, it is clear from the innovative and challenging projects assigned to the students that RBC is invested and focused on technology and howit can drive enhanced value across all lines of the business. From machine learning, to voice recognition, to blockchain, RBC recognizes the need to think innovatively about the current and future relationship between technology and banking.

KARIM HAMASNI 2017 AMPLIFY TEAM LEAD

I am very excited to lead an Amplify team this year. As a technologist, it was a great opportunity to work on new technology — blockchain, as it has incredible potential to impact the banking industry. I like working for a company that is thinking about the future and is initiating innovative and challenging projects. What I find most rewarding is working with the students. The energy that they bring to the program is electric. The way the team works, ideates, and rallies together — it feels like a startup mentality, which is a new way of working for RBC. It is an amazing experience and I’m happy to be part of it.
