MUBARAKAN

From India ( in Hindi with English subtitles) comes Mubarakan, a mistaken- identity romcom. Karan ( Arjun Kapoor) and Charan ( Arjun Kapoor) are identical twin brothers with fraternal twin personalities. Idealistic Charan wants to marry Nafisa. Flamboyant Karan is in love with Sweety. When the family tries to arrange a marriage between Karan and Binkle, he tries to pawn her off on his brother. Still with me? To help clarify the story, much singing and dancing ensues.

THE EMOJI MOVIE

Meanwhile, if you like watching movies on your phone you should thrill to The Emoji Movie, which takes place inside one. Gene (T. J. Miller) is a “meh” emoji, which I’m guessing the studio worries would be the nicest one critics would use to describe the film if they saw it before it opened. The trailer, in which Gene yearns to break free, suggests Inside Out meets Wreck-It Ralph, though perhaps not as good as either.

ALL THE RAGE

When Dr. John Sarno passed away this year at the age of 93, he left behind a controversial medical notion, still not accepted by the mainstream. It has a fancy name — tension myositis syndrome — but it comes down to the idea that a lot of musculoskeletal difficulties, especially back pain, can be traced to stress and other emotional issues. All the Rage is on Sarno’s side, with celebrity patients including Larry David, Howard Stern and Jonathan Ames singing the praises of the mind-body connection.
