ROYAL NEWS RUNNETH OVER

- Sadaf Ahsan Weekend Post

With news this past week that Kate Middleton — apologies, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge — is pregnant with her third child with husband Prince William, one might assume we would have fulfilled our quota of royal news. Not so! Because when the throne giveth, it giveth with both hands. So how better to return to work and school after the Labour Day weekend than with a Vanity Fair cover featuring Prince Harry’s love interest Meghan Markle. After all, the couple have been dating for a whole whopping year, and the cover story represents the first time either have spoken publicly about their relationship.

“We’re a couple. We’re in love,” she reveals in the interview. And the bombshells don’t stop there: “I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”

Taylor Swift would be proud. Especially in regards to a couple as surrounded by intense media speculation as this one. So much so that in November, Kensington Palace broke typical tight- lipped tradition and released a statement condemning the media’s “abuse and harassment” of Markle.

Markle is not only biracial, but previously divorced, making her a romantic option that would have once been unacceptable in the royal family. Commenting on the ravenous public curiosity over every inch of her personal life, Markle told Vanity Fair that she refuses to read the press: “It has its challenges, and it comes in waves. And right out of the gate it was surprising the way things changed. But I still have this support system all around me, and, of course, my boyfriend’s support.

“I can tell you that at the end of the day I think it’s really simple,” she continued. “We’re two people who are really happy and in love. Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”

YAWN! What’s really strange to me is that there are people who would rabidly read such a snore and yet consider themselves above celebrity gossip.
