The NDP and Israel

Re: Breath of fresh air in NDP’s Singh, Terry Glavin, Sept. 14

Jagmeet Singh is taking the balanced approach when he states his opposition to violence targeting civilians and his support for human rights, dignity, peace, economic opportunity and freedom for both Palestinians and Israelis. In principle he is correct but it begs several questions.

Why do the Palestinians deserve these self- evident rights when a quick glance at the Islamic Middle East reveals they essentially do not exist in most of the countries there? Why should the Palestinians be given the very rights they have denied and continue to deny to the Jews? Why is it up to Israel to bestow these rights on the Palestinians when clearly the NDP requires no other Middle Eastern government, including the P.A. and Hamas, to do the same?

Singh may be a breath of fresh air but the NDP’s obsession with Israel is the same toxic smoke as before. Steven Scheffer, Burlington, Ont.
