October 13, 1967 — The Canadian Film Development Corporation (now called Telefilm Canada) was formed as a Crown corporation its mandate was “to foster and promote the development of a feature film industry in Canada.” Without Telefilm, we may never have seen as wide a spectrum of such Canadian films as Sylvain Chomet’s “Les Triplettes de Belleville” or David Cronenberg’s “Eastern Promises.”
