‘MANSPLAINING’ AND ‘HEPEATING’ AT THE ALBERTA LEGISLATURE
Gender and vocabulary are clashing on the floor of the Alberta legislature. Premier Rachel Notley, after accusing a male opponent of “mansplaining,” is now calling out another for what she calls “hepeating.” It came after United Conservative member Jason Nixon lauded Notley for taking his party’s advice on getting more pipelines built, but suggested Notley, pictured, needs to do more. Notley ac- cused Nixon of “hepeating” for taking credit for her government’s work. The day before, Notley sarcastically thanked Alberta Party leader Greg Clark for “mansplaining” to her that there are environmental benefits to pipelines. Clark and other opposition members want Notley sanctioned by the Speaker, calling the word mansplaining inaccurate and prejudicial.
