Wahlberg was paid $1.5M for reshoots

Co-star Michelle Williams got less than $1,000

When director Ridley Scott planned to reshoot parts of All the Money in the World, in order to replace the disgraced Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer, he praised his co- stars Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams for returning for free.

However, according to USA Today, Wahlberg was paid $1.5 million for the week of reshoots, while Williams was paid an $ 80 per diem, totalling less than $1,000. In other words, she was paid less than one per cent of her male co-star’s earnings.

When Scott spoke to USA Today in December, he said he refused to get paid for the reshoots, which cost a hefty $10 million, though the crew was paid. When asked if he paid the actors, Scott said, “No, they all came in free. Christopher had to get paid. But Michelle, no. Me, no.”

So, technically, he never really did mention Wahlberg. Now, this could be chalked up to Wahlberg having a more aggressive management team. But here’s where things get interesting: Williams and Wahlberg are represented by the same talent agency, William Morris Endeavor, meaning that while the same team negotiated Wahlberg’s fee, Williams, a four-time Oscar nominee, was never informed.

Williams previously said of the reshoots, “I said I’d be wherever they needed me, whenever they needed me. And they could have my salary, they could have my holiday, whatever they wanted. Because I appreciated so much that they were making this massive effort.”

According to The Washi ngton Post, Wahlberg, the highest- paid actor of the year, “along with manager Stephen Levinson and agency WME, have a reputation in Hollywood for driving a tough bargain.”

This comes at a time when the pay gap has never been more under the microscope, as the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements continue to rise after a wave of sexual misconduct allegations have flooded Hollywood.

For the record, Williams was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the film and will likely also win an Oscar nomination. As for Wahlberg? Nothing.

As Billy Eichner tweeted, “Shameful indeed. And this is a movie about how greedy and heartless men can be!” Ah, the irony.
